Woman crashes while driving stolen car
California Highway Patrol said a woman was driving a stolen vehicle when she crashed this morning into another car just a few miles west of Ocotillo on Interstate-8 near Highway 98.
CHP identified the woman as 28-year-old Elizabeth Hunt from Escondido. The cars were going westbound. CHP said Hunt may have been going at a high rate of speed when she rear ended the van; that’s being investigated. The woman’s car overturned and the other one went over the road’s edge. Both drivers were injured. Hunt sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. The other driver sustained minor injuries. CHP did not say if alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.
CHP said Hunt will be charged with possession of a stolen vehicle when she recovers from her injuries. The car she was driving was reported stolen in Arizona. There were no passengers in the cars. Hunt was driving a 2018 Jeep Cherokee.
CHP Officer Steve Salcedo said, “When we got to the scene we observed two vehicles. It looked like one rear-ended another. One of the cars ended up overturning on the roadway and the other vehicle ended up going over the edge. Two people were injured from that crash
Hunt’s condition is not known at this time. The accident is under investigation.
