Fundraiser for the Hanson/Gonzalez Family

In tonight’s Making a Difference, we learn about a fundraiser being held to help out a woman, a mother, and now a widow who recently witnessed her husband take his own life this past April.

The tragedy took place at their home leaving Yolanda Gonzalez alone to raise her four young boys. While Yolanda did not want to speak on camera, she said, “My kids and I are grieving. We are having financial issues during this difficult time in our lives and need all the help we can get to cover funeral and living expenses.”

This help is what the WINO group of Yuma is set to provide. “Wino” which stands for “Workers in Name Only”, heard about Yolanda’s situation and wanted to help. They often hold fundraisers to help those in the community and all the proceeds of this fundraiser will go to her family.

“This fundraiser tomorrow is for the Hanson/Gonzalez family here in Yuma. Unfortunately, they had an unexpected death in the family and we’re going to be helping out a widow that’s trying to raise four kids on her own. Tomorrow we are having grilled chicken with all the trimmings, which consist of macaroni salad, beans, salsa, tortillas, and a slice of watermelon,” said Steve Mercado, member of WINO.

Yolanda Gonzalez is expected to be there tomorrow and the fundraiser will take place between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m at the FTS Auto Center located at South Arizona Avenue in Yuma.
