Man arrested after telling police he set his Yuma apartment on fire

A man told law enforcement that he set his apartment on fire in Yuma.

The report came in just before 11 p.m. Monday night. According to Yuma Police Department, officers and officials from Yuma Fire Department went to Duran’s residence located on the 500 block of W. 3rd Street. Officials made entry into the building, however, the fire was already out.

Police said there was evidence that there had been a small fire that appeared to go out by itself in the kitchen area. YPD later found Duran at a separate location where he was arrested. He was booked into the Yuma County Detention Center for arson of a structure or property which is a felony crime.

Police said there was no major damage to the building.
