Local fire department contains vehicle fire in Somerton

A Toyota Camry caught fire on Avenue G and County 17th on Monday leaving the vehicle to be a total loss.

The car caught fire at 8:39 p.m. when the 55-year-old male driver was traveling north on Avenue G. He first noticed smoke and pulled over, according to fire officials.

The driver of the vehicle then tried to extinguish the fire with dirt but eventually walked away for his own safety.

Somerton Cocopah Fire Department units responded to the vehicle fire and put out the flames.

No injuries were reported.

Somerton Police Department assisted with traffic control.
