Agents stop human smuggling attempt involving a stolen vehicle

Border Patrol agents arrested four individuals following a failed human smuggling attempt that involved a stolen vehicle at the Highway 95 checkpoint on Thursday afternoon.

At around 1 p.m., a white 2000 Mercury Sable was sent to a secondary inspection where it was determined that the vehicle was allegedly stolen out of Arizona City.

A 35-year-old male driver and a 24-year-old woman, both United States citizens, were arrested.

Following a search of the vehicle, agents discovered a 16-year-old Mexican national and a 22-year-old Guatemalan national hidden in the trunk of the vehicle.

The driver will face smuggling charges and the two foreign nationals will be processed for removal.

The vehicle was seized by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
