YPD: Man that attacks and flees officers still on the loose

Yuma Police are still searching for 41-year-old Ralph Sivyer.

Sivyer attacked two officers on Friday around 11:10 p.m., according to Yuma Police.

Police were attempting to apprehend Sivyer, who was wanted on several felony charges from previous cases.

Sivyer ran to his car, a black 1999 Nissan Maxima, to get away from officers. Officers tried to remove Sivyer from his vehicle but were injured from the altercation.

Sivyer left the scene with one of the officer’s weapons, a 9 millimeter M&P handgun, according to YPD.

Sivyer is a prohibited possessor, according to YPD.

News 11 spoke to residents in the neighborhood of where the incident unfolded.

One resident said they were outside when it happened. They ran inside their home once they heard officers say “get on the ground.”

Another told News 11 they are ready to move out of the area because crime has picked up.

An additional neighbor said they are not surprised the incident happened in the area.

News 11 looked into Sivyer’s criminal record and this isn’t the first time he has tried to run from police. In 2012, he pled guilty to attempting to run from pursuing officers.

His record dates back 23 years ago.

Sivyer pled guilty to charges of theft in 1995 and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person in 2014.

Yuma Police says that Sivyer could also possibly be driving a red 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche.

Yuma Police is offering a $2,000 award to anyone with a tip leading to his arrest.
