UPDATE: Police looking for gas station murder suspect

The Imperial County Coroner’s Office has identified the man fatally shot at a Brawley gas station on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Brawley police are still looking for the murder suspect tied to the shooting.

The Brawley Police Department responded to a report of gunshots in the area of 1000 Main Street Wednesday around 6 p.m.

Officers responded to Fillco gas station and discovered a 24-year-old victim with multiple gunshot wounds who was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as Daniel Hernandez.

The second victim, a 17-year-old boy, was found a short distance from the scene. He was transported to Pioneers Memorial Hospital and his condition remains unknown.

Police said there were other people in the car with the victims. They were not injured.

BPD detectives identified the alleged suspect as 27-year-old Eduardo Tolentino. Tolentino fled the scene driving a silver and black 2004 Jeep Cherokee, with California license plate number 7WUW019.

Tolentino has been identified by Imperial Valley College as a student.

Witnesses said the incident happened during an altercation between several men at the gas station around 6:00 p.m. when two groups of men ran into each other and someone started shooting.

The incident is being investigated by the Brawley Police Department Investigation Division as an ongoing murder and attempted murder investigation.

The suspect is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

We’ve received unofficial information saying that the family of Eduardo Tolentino are cooperating fully with police.

Family and friends of Daniel Hernandez are having a car wash fundraiser on Saturday, June 2nd, from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. at FillCo gas station 977 Main Street, in Brawley to help with funeral expenses.
