Local teacher shares Harvard Invitation experience

A local teacher had the biggest surprise from a former student inviting her to her Harvard graduation.

Judy Toensing is a middle school teacher and had Christin Gilmer in her sixth-grade-class over twenty years ago. At the end of the school year, she wrote a small message on her Christin’s report card, saying “It has been a joy to have you in class, keep up the good work! Invite me to your Harvard graduation.”

Who knew a few words would come back around decades later when Christin showed up at Fourth Avenue Middle School with a special invitation.

“Every person that she encountered, she gravitated towards, and made them feel welcomed,” said Toensing. “That just resonated with me, that this child is going to go far and reach for the best and the better for humanity.”
