Local Starbucks close their doors for racial bias training
8,000 Starbucks locations closed their doors Tuesday afternoon after the company’s CEO implemented a nationwide racial bias training.
Several Yuma locations participated as well.
The multi-billion dollar company’s closure points back to an incident that occurred at a downtown Philadelphia location.
The arrest of two men led to a national backlash.
Although many people said they planned to pick up a cup of coffee from Starbucks Tuesday afternoon, several other customers said they agree with the company’s decision to move forward with racial bias training.
“I feel like it’s a smart idea to shut down,” Kirsten Brill, a Starbucks customer said. “If it’s going to better each individual, then I think it’s a perfect opportunity.”
The Starbucks located on Pacific Avenue and the second location near 4th Avenue will go back to regular business hours Wednesday morning.
