U of A Yuma gets new building

The ribbon cutting ceremony for the new University of Arizona building in Yuma took place Thursday morning. We spoke to the president of the university and a current student to see their view on the new facility.

U of A Yuma started out as a branch of the university and now it offers 16 different degrees all based on workforce development. Due to the growing number of students in the area, it was time the university open its own building. Classes were previously held at AWC and now 134 students are enrolled at the new facility.

“We had a couple of offices and we wanted to consolidate and have the big block “A” outside to where everybody can see it and know where to come and then have our students have a wonderful environment inside where they can have their classes and learn and congregate,” said Robert Robbins, The President of the University of Arizona.

“They actually have a really cool program at the U of A, where you can come here and they have classrooms with little monitors and they actually project live from the actual classrooms at the U of A main campus. You’re kinda essentially in the classroom with them, just watching the videos. You can raise your hand and talk to your professors. It’s petty cool, ” said Ethan Munoz, Student.

The building was funded by the students tuition and is currently open, located right across from AWC and Gila Ridge High School.
