Man sentenced in Yuma homicide case

The man charged with killing a Yuma teenager in 2016 was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison.

Christopher Carreno, 19, took a plea agreement and was sentenced for manslaughter Wednesday in court, for the murder of Victor Sanchez, 15.

News 11 also confirmed Carreno was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison for assisting in a criminal street gang. Carreno is getting credit for time served.

The sentences will be served at the same time.

The shooting happened on Jan. 9, 2016, in the 600 block of S. 17th Ave. Police said multiple shots were fired into the vehicle Sanchez was in when he was struck.

Sanchez was flown to a Phoenix hospital and was listed in critical condition. He died four days later.
