City of Imperial welcomes back sale of fireworks in city limits

After a rise in haystack fires, discharging fireworks in the city of Imperial was banned. But residents have a reason to celebrate this season.

Just in time for fourth of July, the city of Imperial is accepting applications to permit three local non profit organizations to sell fire works.

“Now that we’re making that allowance, residents are able to celebrate the fourth of July, as they wish to in their own homes. As long as they…you know…meet the standards of safe and sane, ” said Alexis Chalupnik, public information officer for the city of Imperial.

One applicant says this will mean a lot to the community. Susan Paradis, executive director for the Imperial Chamber of Commerce said, “I think it’s a great opportunity to bring families together. The old school block party. Kids playing, doing their sparklers, you know families. Bringing families together. It’s also a great opportunity for the chambers to get exposure and meet the community.”

The sale of fireworks in the city, will have economical benefits. Chalupnik said, “the sale that will take place for those non profits, will typically be a fundraiser for them. Obviously with sales, there is an amount of sales tax that will come back to the city. And that goes back into the city’s economy that stimulate that.”

If more than three non profit organizations meet the requirements in the application process, a lottery will be held by the city. The deadline to apply is May 31.
