UPDATE: Fatally shot person in Yuma identified

UPDATE (9:49 A.M.)

49-year-old Lisa Rivera was involved in a domestic disturbance in a parking lot located in the 100 block of W. Giss Parkway Monday, according to the Yuma Police Department.

YPD confirms that Rivera was armed with a small caliber handgun during this incident.

After a short struggle, one shot was fired by a YPD officer striking Rivera who was then pronounced dead at the scene according to YPD.

The YPD officer that fired the shot has been placed on paid administrative leave. The officer has been with YPD for five years.

One person is dead following an officer-involved shooting at the parking lot located in the 100 block of W. Giss Parkway Monday afternoon, according to authorities.

Yuma Police said they responded to a domestic disturbance call at 4:31 p.m. Officers arrived at the scene which then led to an officer-involved shooting that resulted in one dead.

YPD said the officers involved in the incident were uninjured.

The westbound lane of Giss Parkway is closed for several hours as the investigation continues.
