Border Patrol agents seize over $300K worth of narcotics

Border Patrol agents working at the Highway 86 checkpoint seized over $300,000 worth of narcotics in three separate events over the weekend.

On Friday, just after 3 p.m., a canine detection team alerted to a truck driven by a woman.

Agents conducted an inspection that led to the discovery of 70 wrapped bundles hidden in the rear quarter panels of the vehicle. The packages tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 76.4 pounds with an estimated value of $252,120.

Agents arrested the woman who is a United States citizen. The woman, vehicle, and drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The second incident happened on Saturday at around 4:15 p.m. Agents were conducting an immigration inspection on a Greyhound bus and noticed an unclaimed bag in the overhead compartment of the bus.

Two bundles of heroin were inside with a total weight of 9.8 ounces with a value of $12,767. Agents were also able to identify the man, a U.S. citizen, who brought the bag on the bus but failed to claim it.

The man and narcotics were turned over to the Imperial Valley High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area team.

On Sunday, agents referred a driver of a sedan for further inspection and discovered 19 packages hidden inside the firewall of the sedan. The contents tested positive for methamphetamine with a total weight of 11.5 pounds and valued at $38,000.
