Miss Yuma County to host “Awareness Walk for Suicide Prevention”

Gila Ridge High School Student, Body President and recently named Miss Yuma County, Cassidy Legros is hosting an Awareness Walk for Suicide Prevention on Saturday, May 5.

The event is being hosted at Gateway Park (ocean-to-ocean bridge) in Yuma from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The event is called “Follow the Yellow Ribbon Road” in an effort to raise community awareness about suicide prevention as well as the Yellow Ribbon Program. Legros, a senior, is one of several Yuma Union High School Distinct students who underwent two days of training in November as part of the YRSP committee.

“We truly want to get as many people in the community involved with spreading awareness in regards to suicide prevention,” said Legros.

The program’s two keys are empowering communities and individuals through leadership, awareness and education by identifying/collaborating with support networks to save lives.
