Catch of the Day Possible job

It could just be the oldest of trade; fishing and one company has made it it’s business for more than a half century. The Icicle Seafood company was in Yuma looking to recruit new members for their processing plants in Alaska, yes, Alaska. The company held a recruitment event at the Goodwill Career Center in Yuma.

The one stop shop event allowed for applicants to apply and have the interview during the same day. If said employee passed a background check then the next step is to travel to Icicle’s home office in Seattle Washington where the company would then take you to one of their processing plants. The company offers room and board and meals are covered.

The job is pretty much cut and dry (no pun intended) those that are hired sign a contract and relocate to one of their facilities. Before signing on the dotted line recruiters make it clear that new hires must pay they’re own way to Washington; from there the company picks up the tab for travel. They also make it clear that the cannery business like any other business relies heavily on their supply; basically, if the ships don’t catch fish, then there’s no fish to process, then there’s no work and no check.

We spoke to Recruitment Officer Laura Mcfadyen who tells us a little of what people should expect if traveling to Alaska. According to her the temps range between 40 and 70 degrees and is considered a tundra like climate.
