UPDATE: School districts to remain closed on Wednesday

Here is a list of the schools that have announced school closures for Wednesday, May 2nd as walkouts continue in support of the Red for Ed movement.

Crane School District

Crane School District schools will be open for classes on Wednesday after an announcement made on their Facebook page.

Gadsden Elementary School District

All Gadsden Elementary School District schools will be closed on Wednesday to guarantee student safety during the walkouts.

School cafeterias will be open to provide breakfast from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and lunch from 11:00 a.m. to noon.

Somerton School District

Somerton School District schools will remain closed Wednesday, May 2nd as walkouts continue.

School cafeterias will remain open to serve anyone 18 years of age and under breakfast from 7:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. and lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Yuma School District One

Yuma School District One released a statement regarding school closures continuing this Wednesday, May 2nd due to teacher walkouts.

School cafeterias will be open to offer breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to noon. for students ages 18 and under.

Yuma Union High School District

All Yuma Union High School District schools will be closed Wednesday, May 2, due to the continued statewide movement to increase funding for K-12 education.

“We are going to continue monitoring the state legislature’s actions as well as the AEU (Arizona Educators United) and Red for Ed movement,” YUHSD Superintendent Gina Thompson said. “Due to the extremely high number of teacher absence requests for Wednesday, we are unable to provide adequate supervision on our campuses. We understand the challenges and concerns this creates for students and their families, but we cannot jeopardize the safety and security of our students.”

The district will continue to update parents and students using their Blackboard Connect School Messenger notification, social media and website.
