Local districts address their plans regarding upcoming walkout
Local districts are speaking out on their plans for the upcoming walkout planned for Thursday, April 26th.
Gadsden Elementary School District (GESD) plans to close their doors if teachers decide to participate in the walkout expected for Thursday.
District schools will close for the duration of the walkout following a decision made by district leaders to ensure students’ safety, according to a statement released Friday.
The district said teacher leadership will give an advanced notice regarding the date the walkout is expected to begin.
The district will be notifying parents and staff of any changes made through the schools’ and district Facebook pages, GESD website, and their notification system.
Yuma School District One also released a statement regarding the upcoming teacher walkout.
The district said they are working with staff to measure the potential impact the walkout could have towards the district. They plan to communicate with parents, employees, and stakeholders Blackboard Connect messenger, district website, and social media.
Yuma Union High School District released a statement:
“We do have a plan in place to address the situation and if there are too few teachers or no teachers to support a safe and secure environment for students, then we will have to cancel school and make up the school day(s) prior to the end of second semester in order to meet our requirements for attendance as a district.”
