Murder suspect arrested in Slab City

Authorities arrested a man wanted for the shooting death of a victim in Virginia that happened in February.

The United States Marshals Service, Southern District of California’s El Centro Fugitive Task Force in conjunction with the United States Marshals Service Eastern District of Virginia and the Virginia Beach Police Department arrested 30-year-old Andre’Jeru Bernard Bigby on Friday. Bigby was wanted out of Virginia Beach, Virg. for the homicide of 19-year-old Jayln Harris. The shooting death occurred on February 13.

Working with Indio Border Patrol Sector agents and the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office, the El Centro Fugitive Task Force arrested Bigby in a remote desert area near Niland, Calif. known as Slab City. After following multiple leads and searching the area around Niland, the Task Force located Bigby hiding in a tent in Slab City where he was arrested without incident.

Bigby is being held at the Imperial County Jail, and is currently awaiting extradition to Virginia.

The El Centro Fugitive Task Force is a division of the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force (PSWRFTF) and is part of a network of U.S. Marshals Task Forces across the country. The PSWRFTF is one of seven congressionally funded fugitive task forces all across the country.
