Two deaths due to vehicle heat stroke this year

Before temperatures begin to rise, it is good to remember that children heat are a bad combination.

It’s just early April, but temperatures are on the rise and it’s time to be cautious of the heat.

“Even though we are not quite there in the triple degree digit we need to start worrying about that now, now that we’ve hit 90 degrees even when we hit 85 we don’t want to see a child unattended in a vehicle,” said Charly McMurdie, Public information officer at Rural Metro Fire Department.

According to kidsandcars.org the reported number of deaths just this year due to vehicular heat stroke is two already, along with two possible deaths in Arizona pending an autopsy after a mother left two toddlers in the vehicle for 14 hours.

“Just think of yourself in your office, you’re in a controlled environment the temp is 80 degrees and even then it gets a little warm for you, you’re taking all the opportunities away when you put them in a vehicle,” said McMurdie.

During the summer, temperatures reach triple digits, especially in Arizona and it is better to be cautious.

Some helpful tips:

1. Always double check the back seat to make sure no one is left behind

2. Place an item in the backseat that you need so you do not forget to check

3. And call 911 if you if you see anything suspicious.
