Local business mistaken for Spectrum cable

A local business owner is frustrated after receiving multiple calls and visits from customers who are mistaking his office for Spectrum cable.

“So what am I doing promoting Spectrum advertising or Spectrum cable?” said Rob Zimmer, owner of Spectrum Creative Services.

Rob Zimmer opened his advertising agency in El Centro back in 1989 and called it Spectrum.

But in 2016, Zimmer’s brand was no longer unique. Charter Communications acquired Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks creating Spectrum cable.

That’s when people started to confuse his company with Spectrum cable.

“People would just come up to us and say I’m mad at you or this and that or I need your service. I’m like no no no we’re a marketing agency we’re Spectrum Creative. That’s a different company,” said Fernando Zavala, public relations for Spectrum Creative Services.

The volume of customer complaints forced Zimmer to record this automated message to answer calls:

“Welcome to Spectrum Creative Services. For English press one. For Español, oprime dos. If you’re calling for Spectrum cable formally Time Warner Cable you have reached the wrong number.”

“This shows you that somebody called and it just shows you all the calls. You can see the zeros we don’t make any money on the calls.”

The problem has escalated since February 2nd when Spectrum cable removed KYMA, KSWT, and Estrella TV from its local cable lineup.

“A lot worse! And now it turned around it hurt my reputation.”

Zimmer said he has struggled to get a solution or even a response from Spectrum cable.

“None! Oh, I’ll do it you know. If I do get somebody, it’ll be I’ll do it and then they disappear. They will write me and then disappear.”

KYMA News 11 reached out to Charter Spectrum and they have yet to release a response.

“That’s the problem too it’s inherent that people call the cable company because they’re upset with something. That’s probably over half of them. So my staff, when it takes staff time, they’re fielding angry calls.”

Zimmer said he is now considering a lawsuit against Spectrum cable.
