Local schools make a visit to JA Biztown

United Way of Yuma County along with several community volunteers took a trip to Tempe, AZ, with nearly 100 fifth graders on Thursday, March 22.

Students from G.W. Carver Elementary and OC Johnson Community School visited a town called JA Biztown for a hands-on program that introduces students to economic concepts, workplace skills and personal and business finances in a student-sized town built just for them.

JA BizTown is an indoor city where students assume roles of business leaders and consumers for a daylong, immersive career-prep experience.

In partnership with Yuma Elementary School District the United Way of Yuma County program introduces fifth graders to future career opportunities.

United Way hopes to break the cycle of poverty before it begins by implementing these basic teachings to elementary-aged children.
