Alfredo Estrada appointed Imperial County Fire Chief

The Imperial County Board of Supervisors appointed Alfredo Estrada as the new Imperial County Fire Chief/Office of Emergency Services Coordinator Tuesday, March 27th.

Chief Estrada is a native of El Centro, Calif. and will supervise the safety of around 4,600 square miles that includes Imperial County with special contracts with Brawley, Holtville, Imperial, Westmorland, and the Salton Sea Community Service area.

Chief Estrada will also command 92 employees representing the Imperial County Fire Department and Office of Emergency Services.

Chief Estrada said he will “strive to maintain the resilience of Imperial County from man-made and natural disasters.”

His fire service career began in 1998 with the Imperial County Fire Department. Before being appointed, he steadily worked his way up the ranks as Deputy Chief of Training, Fire Marshall, Fire Captain, Firefighter Engineer and Reserve Firefighter.

“[I was] impressed with Chief Estrada’s character from the onset. His professional experience as Director at the IVC Fire Academy, along with his longevity with County Fire, makes him the perfect leader for the department,” District 5 Supervisor and Chairman of the Board Ray Castillo said.

Chief Estrada earned an Associate degree in Fire Technology from Imperial Valley College, a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration from Cogswell Poly Technical and a Master’s degree in Science in Emergency Management from Jacksonville University.

He also serves as a part-time adjunct instructor at Imperial Valley College where he has served as the Fire Technology Director and Fire Academy Coordinator since 2006.
