Border Patrol agents assaulted in two separate events
El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents were assaulted in two separate events on Monday.
The first incident happened at around 6:30 a.m. when an agent attempted to arrest a man suspected of illegally entering the United States. During questioning, the man punched the agent in the face and ran away.
Agents soon responded to assist and arrested the man who was then transported to the Calexico station for processing.
The agent received medical attention but did not sustain significant injuries.
The second incident occurred at around 8:55 p.m. when agents responded to an area where four subjects were suspected of illegally entering the United States near the downtown Calexico Port of Entry.
After agents identified themselves and attempted to question the four subjects, they ran away from the agents. Agents apprehended two of the subjects while the remaining escaped back into Mexico.
As the agents pursued the two subjects who ran back to Mexico, large chunks of debris and rocks were thrown at agents from other people in Mexico. The agents were forced to take cover and protect the two people apprehended earlier.
“Attacks and assaults on our agents are a serious matter and a felony offense. We will not tolerate those types of behaviors against our agents and will seek prosecution against any person who engages in an assault on our agents,” said Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim.
No major injuries were experienced.
