Inmate at ADC dies

24-year-old Patrick D. Crooks died on Thursday at Yuma Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained on Wednesday, March 14, at the Arizona Department of Corrections.

Crooks injuries were caused by an act of self-harm using a bed sheet tied to a shower stall.

Staff had discovered Crooks shortly after midnight on Wednesday while conducting a security check. They immediately intervened and performed life-saving measures until paramedics arrived and transported him off-site to the hospital.

Crooks came to ADC custody in 2017 after he was convicted out of Gila County to 1 year and 6 months for endangerment.

His assigned housing location was ASPC-Yuma.
