Center for children with special needs and autism

A new center in Yuma county will benefit the families of children with special needs and autism.

It has been a long time coming in Yuma county. This center is the first in our area that addresses the needs of children with autism and special needs. Before families all over Yuma county had to travel to Phoenix or San Diego to see a specialist certified to help diagnose and prescribe medicine to their children, but now psychologists and psychiatrists will be on hand to address the immediate needs of these children.

Open to all, they specialize in ages 21 and younger. President and CEO Amanda Aguirre of Regional Center for Border Health explains her experience with the community and how she knew their was an immediate need for this.

“Heartbreaking when you see the parents that have a child with special needs and have no place to go or that the resources are not here or no one is providing the awareness and education that the parents need to have in order to address those needs,” said Aguirre.

Aguirre is a democratic politician who has served as an Arizona state senator and representative for seven years combined for District 24 and is proud to be leading this center.

Her hope is that people from all over can come out and get the help they need. The center is located at the San Luis walk in clinic in Somerton. For more information visit RCFBH.org
