Snappin some love for pet adoption awareness
The Petco Foundation is using an event they created called Snap Love, where pet lovers can submit photos of themselves with their adopted pets to create a mural in New York City.
We spoke to the Devin Apodaca, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Imperial County, on what Snap Love is and how it could help them.
Devin said, “what they’re doing is they’re putting together one of the worlds largest mosaics. Who have adopted their pets from, shelters or rescues. Their pictures with those animals will be featured. And then the shelter or the rescue that gets the most nominations, during this month will receive a ten thousand dollar grant through Petco Foundations. “
Devin says there’s a way for local residents to help their chances to win.
“You know what they can do is, make sure to go on our facebook page. We did make a post about it. Click on the link, submit their pictures and make sure they mention that they adopted their pets from the humane society of the Imperial County. “
To Devin, adopting animals is vital
” Adoption saves lives. There’s a lot of animals in shelters. In the United States alone, there’s over seven million animals that enter shelters every year. These are pets that are abandoned, unwanted, they’re accidental litters from people not spaying or neutering their pets. About half of those are euthanized in the United States every years, cause there’s just not enough homes for them. When people are adopting they’re saving lives. “
The deadline to submit photos for Snap Love is March 25th.
