Funds not cut from nutrition program as reported

Over the past weekend, news came out that funding from a nutrition program fro low income residents had been cut, but the Public Health Department of the Imperial County says it’s all just a misunderstanding.

We spoke to Janette Angulo, who’s the Community Health Deputy Director who said that, “every year we receive an allocation from the California Department of Public Health, to do some work around nutrition and physical activity in our county. And this year, the contract had different amount. and what happened was it was taken to the board of supervisors and it was corrected. To reflect the proper amount that the Imperial County is receiving.”

Janette also says that while this mistake rarely happens, it was all a human error.

“The change or that there is an error in the allocation amount, no it does not happen very often.”

She also says that the nutrition program will continue as usual.

“it was just a contract error, an administrative error that got rectified, the allocation is the same. Again, services are continuing as usual, we have our nutrition education sessions continuing, our food demonstrations, and services.”

So local residents who are part of the nutrition program, can now breathe a sigh of relief.
