CBP officers arrest SENTRI member after meth discovery

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Calexico West port of entry arrested a SENTRI member after discovering methamphetamine inside the spare tire of a vehicle on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:35 p.m. when CBP officers encountered a 18-year-old in a brown Chevy Yukon.

Officers conducted an intensive inspection that included use of the port’s imaging system and a canine team to search the vehicle. Officers then found 20 wrapped packages of methamphetamine inside the spare tire.

The weight of the narcotic was 35 pounds with an estimated street value of 49,000. CBP seized the narcotics and vehicle.

The 18-year-old was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigation agents and was later transported to the Imperial County Jail where he currently waits arraignment.
