Court documents state 21 firearms were seized from the home of 18-year-old Karl Manaig the day he was arrested two weeks ago. He is accused of making criminal threats against Imperial High School students.
Court documents state police went to Manaig ‘s home in the City of Imperial on Friday, February 16th after students alerted school staff to Manaig ‘s alleged plans to hurt some students. They seized 21 firearms, including two AR-15 rifles, capable of firing up to 45 forty-five rounds per minute. Target practice items with holes in them were found in his car. Documents state Manaig admits to making threats against some students whom he said had allegedly bullied him in the past.
Calexico High School Teacher Bill Hodge said bullying could cause severe mental and emotional trauma in some students.
“One factor that can cause resentment, a sense of revenge, a sense of alienation. Lots of times, kids that are bullied are isolated. And a great amount of isolation can cause mental instability,” Hodge said.
Manaig is barred from going near Imperial High School or some of its students.Manaig is expected to go to trial on March 12th.
