The kick off of the annual California Mid Winter Fair and Fiesta
Step right up, step right up as the California Mid Winter Fair and Fiesta, opens this friday and goes on for the next two weeks.
This marks the one hundred and tenth annual running of the Mid Winter Fair and Fiesta, which brings a lot of history and roots in the agriculture community. But it’s more than just rides and games. The organizers of the fair have chosen a theme this year, that they hope will inspire the youths of the Imperial Valley.
We spoke to Alan Phillips, Chief Executive Officers of the fair, who said, “this years theme is field of dreams. And really, what we’re really trying to show is that fields can be what you want it to be. We’ve tried to highlight a lot of community members here who’ve made it successful and have lived their dreams. so that we can kind of inspire our youth to know that, you can be successful in what ever field you want to pursue.”
Alan said a change in this years fair is adding more dirt events.
” Concerts are gonna be out on our community stages. And we’re gonna try and focus on dirt events. this year we have a monster truck show, two types of open wheel racing, demolition derby, car show, car hop, free style motor cross, so we’re really trying to focus on dirt type events, because we’re a community that loves dirt racing.”
When asked what’s the biggest reason to go to the fair, Alan said, “well the fair is, it’s part of the history of not only the Imperial County, but of Americana. Fairs have been around America for years. So it really is a place where the Imperial Valley comes together and they become a community.”
The California Mid Winter Fair and Fiesta kicks off this weekend.
