Home is where the brew is
Something’s brewing in the city of Calexico. Calexico Brewery is only the third craft brewery that’s opened in the Imperial Valley. After two years in the making, the dream of the Yepez brothers, opening their own brewery came true. But none of it would be possible without family.
Robert Yepez, the chief of operations, said “it means a lot to have done this with my family. Because I know I can count on them. Growing a business from scratch is not easy. So you need to count on those other people to help you out. “
But to Robert, it was important to bring the brewery to Calexico. Yepez, who’s lived in the city most of his life, “I want to keep it at home. To give back. To grow. To grow into the community and grow it into something a lot more than just a small tap room.”
After opening their doors for the first time this weekend, the family wants to see their hard work pay off. Robert says, “I expect a huge turnout. Like I said, it’s one of the first time we’re actually opening this place up to the public. Where they’re actually going to come in and see all the hard work that we’ve put into this place, and see that we’re here to stay. We’re here to change a lot of the way things are.”
The family says, going to the brewery is all part of the experience of having fresh served beer and talking to the person who made it with passion.
