New position to ensure student safety at Imperial County Office of Education
With the recent school shootings and criminal threats happening across the country and locally, the Imperial County Office of Education has made strides to ensure the safety of their students by creating a new position that will help the school district.
At the end of last fall, the Office of Education created the position of Director of Support Services that serves as an asset and resource for emergency preparedness and awareness.
Richard Cordero, who has over twenty years of experience in education, was selected for the position.
“One of the reasons I’m here is to be able to help parents if they have any questions or refer them to the appropriate agencies that may be out there. That may be better to answer their questions but also for the district,” said Cordero.
Cordero hopes to bring uniformity throughout the county and ensure the safety of all students.
“Because of my position, I’m able to spend a little more time in doing research and vetting some of the agencies or protocols that are being recommended by the state or the national level.”
He also wants parents to know that they can rely on their children being safe.
“Number one priority of all educators, in all districts, not just here in Imperial County, but throughout California and the nation, is safety of children. And we have taken, we meaning the education community, take it very seriously. and for them to know that we are here to help, and we’re here to protect their children as well as educate them,” Cordero added.
Cordero said that their doors are open to any parents who have questions about how they achieve their safety goals.
The Imperial County Office of Education is taking the necessary steps to ensure that students are in good hands.
