Day 4: The Hernandez-Serrano murder trial

Day four of the Hernandez-Serrano murder trial resumed and the forensic pathologist who conducted an autopsy on the victim, Emmanuel Alvarenga-Navarrete, took the stand Friday.

According to the pathologist, the victim suffered at least three gunshot wounds on January 20th of 2016.

The suspect, Francisco Hernandez-Serrano, is facing first-degree murder following Alvarenga’s death on January 20, 2016.

The pathologist said in court that she identified a wound on the victim’s body that appeared consistent with the position his body was dumped in a Yuma produce field.

Moreover, she said the victim had suffered gunshot wounds on his right hand, his right arm, [unknown] leg and chest.

A forensic scientist took the stand Friday. He said he conducted a DNA comparison of the two suspects involved: Jose Alfredo Sorto and Francisco Hernandez-Serrano.

He said he found a match during his finding with that of the victim, Emmanuel Alvarenga-Navarrete.

Sorto entered a plea deal back in October 2017. He is now in prison serving a 22-year sentence.

The defense attorney for this case, Raymond Vaca, said his client is not guilty of these charges. The trial will resume Tuesday.
