Crime Watch: New program gets much needed boost
According to the Centers for Disease Control one in every ten high schoolers has driven under the influence of either alcohol or another illicit drug. The Yuma Police Department is looking to curve those numbers by way of education; the police department has created their Teen Driving Program and with the help of a $10,000 grant from State Farm they’re moving one step closer.
The money received will be used to buy special DUI deterrent equipment; on their shopping list is special goggles that give the user the sense of being under the influence and specially designed pedal cars. The equipment will be taken to area schools and students will be given the opportunity to see just what someone under the influence goes through when they risk driving.
State Farm has issued Safety Grants throughout the country to organizations who look to make their communities safer.
