Two people dead after collision on Interstate 8
The California Highway Patrol said two people died after a collision with a mountainous ridge on Interstate 8 Monday evening.
The California Highway Patrol said Monday at about 6:50 p.m. officers got a call about a traffic collision that happened on Interstate 8 eastbound, just east of In Ko Pah Park Road.
When officers arrived, a maroon Nissan Altima was on the right shoulder of eastbound I-8 on its roof with visible signs of front-end collision damage.
Officers said the driver was heading eastbound on I-8 and for an unknown reason the driver hit the guard rail on Boulder Creek Bridge. The driver then lost control of the vehicle and continued across eastbound lanes where it hit mountainous terrain.
The unidentified male driver and the 23-year-old female passenger from Calexico, Calif. were trapped inside the vehicle and died.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation
