Arizona Winter League Returns

Bases are loaded as the Arizona Winter League returns to Yuma.

Every February for the past 11 years, the Arizona Winter League has been coming to Yuma. It’s an annual league that focuses on helping both current and aspiring professional baseball players improve their skills while working with professional coaches. As of now about 75 free agent players are practicing from all over the world. This year four teams will play and the public is welcome to attend. Billy Horn, the league manager explains what the ‘AWL’ means to them.

“The Arizona Winter League has been great. Not only for players, but for coaches like myself to come on out and not only evaluate talent, but you make so many connections and you meet so many people from over the country and all over the world,” said Horn.

So far we have players from Japan, China, New Zealand and Australia and the list goes on. Over the years, over 1,000 players who attended the ‘AWL’ have been signed to professional contracts dating back to 2007. The next game takes this Saturday at 11 am. A season pass is just 20 bucks, with entrance to individual games being five dollars each.
