YPG’s 75th Celebration: What you need to know
The Yuma Proving Ground celebrates 75 years on February 3.
“75 years of testing is a huge accomplishment,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Christopher A. Prosser. “What we do every single day amounts to saving soldiers lives on the battlefield and that’s why it means so much to us, highlighting that for the community and for everybody to understand that the Yuma Proving Ground is out here and is the United States Army and Military installation and it’s very important to our national security,” he added.
The celebration lasts all day at the Yuma Proving Ground (YPG). Gates open at 7:30 a.m.
YCAT is offering transportation with a small fee of $2 per person one-way.
They will be running a circuit between the Foothills Library, the main YCAT depot and Target at the Yuma Palms to the Yuma Proving Ground. It’ll be making big circles all day.
YPG asks for people to not bring RVs.
If you are 17 and older you will need a government issued picture I.D. and proof of insurance card.
During the day:
The Military Free-fall school instructors will bring in the American flag for the Honor Guard to open the ceremonies.
Following that will be a flyover jet performance from the MCAS pilots.
Then, there will be live performances throughout the day, a car and RV show, static displays and vendors of all kinds.
Wrapping up the celebration will be a firework display.
“The community has supported YPG for the last 75 years,” said Rick Bessett, the director of family morale, welfare and recreation at YPG. “It’s a fantastic operation that’s been in place for 75 years, working with the in the community, so now it’s our turn to say come on in and look and see what you’ve supported,” he said.
