Topic of the Day: Arizona bill would prosecute “Bad Samaritans”

13 On Your Side wants to know your thoughts:

Both California and Arizona have some sort of “Good Samaritan” laws, these laws protect a person who renders aid to someone in distress and keeps them safe from being sued. Now, Arizona is looking to pass a “Bad Samaritan” law which would prosecute bystanders that refuse to call 9-1-1 in the event of a life-threatening emergency.

The law stems from an incident in Florida where teenagers stood by as a man drowned, aside from not helping the man the teens recorded video of the man in distress. In that case police in Cocoa, Florida discovered the video of the man’s death after the incident; unfortunately no charges could be filed against the teens because there’s no law against doing nothing.

Should people that don’t report an emergency be held liable?
