Teen arrested after reported gun disturbance

The Yuma Police Department arrested a teenager after police say he struck an apartment with a vehicle he was driving Friday morning.

At approximately 8:36 a.m., Yuma Police officers responded to the 1600 Block of S. Arizona Avenue for a reported disturbance with a gun. It was also reported that the suspects were leaving the scene in a gray Toyota passenger car.

Arriving officers spotted the vehicle and attempted to perform a traffic stop using lights and sirens. The vehicle sped away and collided into an occupied apartment building in the 2000 block of Walnut Avenue. Three suspects fled on foot and were eventually located and detained.

The damage to the apartment is estimated at $20,000. There were no reported injuries from this incident.

The driver, a 17-year-old male juvenile, was booked into the Yuma County Juvenile Justice Center for unlawful flight, criminal damage, criminal trespass and endangerment. The other two suspects were interviewed and released.

This case is still under investigation.
