Arizona Governor Doug Ducey gives his State of the State address

In his final state of the state speech before his 2018 re-election campaign, Governor Doug Ducey laid out his agenda for the state of Arizona.

Monday’s speech had a particular theme entitled “Spirit of service.” Ducey discussed such topics as the opioid crisis that plagues the state along with his hopes to increase school funding, adopt new policies for ex-prisoners and help those in the child welfare system. Opioid use being a major problem in the state, he spent the past year trying to crack down on the over-prescribing of prescription drugs.

“These are real lives and real people. Gone. Someone’s mom, their dad. Daughters and sons. All ages. All incomes, families, marriages and lives torn apart, tragically and unexpectedly because of a potent drug mis-prescribed, over-prescribed — and then, before you know it, it’s too late,” said Ducey.

The Governor said his legislative package will protect those suffering from chronic pain that of which will be released next week. He also makes a point to add that those abusing prescription meds will be held accountable. The 2018 Arizona election where Doug Ducey will run again to keep his role as Governor will take place on November 6th, 2018.
