Fire forces evacuation at The San Carlos Hotel

The Yuma Police Department responded to a fire at the San Carlos Hotel located at 106 East 1st Street at around 12:08 a.m. Monday.

Yuma Police evacuated the building to aid the Yuma Fire Department. Residents were unable to return to their apartments for some time. Here is what one resident had to say,

“The fire started on the fifth floor. I was on the second floor. The security officer came knocking on our doors, telling us to get out of the building. We all waited outside for around two and a half to three hours. I feel my safety is at risk.”

The streets were closed for about three and half hours. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, however several of the residents say they feel like it was arson, due to the fact that this is the second fire to take place on the 5th floor in the last couple months. Luckily no injuries have been reported.
