Three-vehicle collision in Somerton sends two to the hospital

The Somerton Cocopah Fire Department responded to a three-vehicle collision on County 14th Street and Somerton Avenue at around 5:01 p.m. Thursday.

Upon arriving at the scene, SCFD personnel found three vehicles involved with moderate damages.

A Toyota Yaris had a 39-year-old woman and a five-year-old child as passengers. A Nissan sedan had two occupants and a Chevrolet Avalanche had one occupant.

A witness said that the Nissan sedan failed to stop at the intersection while traveling west on County 14th Street and collided with the Toyota Yaris that was traveling on Somerton Avenue which caused it to collide with the Avalanche.

The woman and child of the Toyota Yaris were both transported with non-threatening injuries to Yuma Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

The three other occupants involved in the accident refused medical attention at the scene.

Yuma County Sheriff Office is investigating the accident.
