Local firefighters battling Thomas Fire

The Yuma Fire Department Task Force assigned to fight the Creek Fire near Sylmar, Calif. is now fighting the Thomas Fire burning near Ventura, Calif.

The Yuma Fire Department said they wer reassigned on Sunday. They had been working on the Creek Fire since arriving in the area last Tuesday evening. They have been working 24-hour shifts patrolling for and extinguishing hot spots in their assigned area. At last report the Creek fire has burned over 15,000 acres and is 95% contained.

The Imperial Valley Task Force, with our personnel, arrived in the Ventura area last night and was last reported to be awaiting assignment in the staging area. The latest information on the Thomas fire is that it has already burned over 230,000 acres and is only 15 percent contained. Currently there are over 6,000 personnel assigned to this fire.
