Witness speaks following the ‘Cannabis Relief Clinic’ armed robbery

New details tonight on the armed robbery at a medical marijuana clinic in Yuma. A woman who was inside the clinic while the robbery was going down is speaking out about the terrifying ordeal.

“This guy comes in and he stands up in the middle and he’s got a mask up over his face and a hoodie on and we’re all looking at him and he takes this bag and pulls out a gun and says this is a hold up, don’t anybody move,” said Dionne.

Gail Dionne relives the terrifying moments of last Sunday.

“I didn’t believe it at first even the doctor said, are you serious? And he said, ‘oh yeah, I’m serious now hand over the money.'”

Dionne says when the suspect Luther Byers demanded money, the doctor behind the counter at the ‘Cannabis Relief Clinic’ on 4th ave, didn’t give up without a fight.

“She comes out from behind the desk as he’s pulling it. He shoves her back and at the same time, the money bag goes poof everywhere and there must of been $20,000 dollars that went flying into the air all over the floor,” said Dionne.

She recalls the shell shock in the room.

“Everybody just kind of froze in place and we’re all looking at each other and we’re looking at him and nobody moved,” said Dionne.

Police say the suspect left scene without any money in tow and jumped into a getaway car. Officers believe the car belongs to another suspect who is still on the run.

Luckily no one was hurt in the fiasco, but in Gail’s eyes, one person in particular saved the day.

“The doctor was a hero, she really was and she came back in after she had chased him and thanked us all for sitting still and being calm and not doing anything. So it was scary!”

Dionne adds that the whole robbery took place in an instant and she doesn’t believe the suspect was there to shoot anyone, but seemed to just want to grab the money and go.

Byers was in court today facing armed robbery charges along with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bail is set at $200,000 dollars.

Ypd is still searching for the second suspect involved.
