Topic of the Day: Country mourns with Texas

13 On Your Side wants to know your thoughts:

Once again, we mourn as a nation as news of yet another mass shooting makes headlines. Yet again another shooting at a place where we go for solace and prayer; a crazed gunman unleashed an unwarranted attack on defenseless church goers at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. Details of the attack are grim and authorities are still trying to piece together just what drove 26-year old Devin Kelley to kill 26 people and wound 20 others.

Among the victims were children, the youngest was 17-months; according to law enforcement they believe Kelley’s mother-in-law attended that very church although she wasn’t there on Sunday. Authorities have painted a dark portrait of Kelley who according to them had a violent past and was even discharged from the Air Force for Bad Conduct linked to the abuse of his wife and children.

On Sunday, Kelley arrived at the church carrying an arsenal in his vehicle. He then proceeded to fire into the buidling. Kelley was met by a neighbor who began to fire at him and it’s believed Kelley exchanged gun fire with the good samaritan. Reports are showing Kelley fled the scene possibly injured. After being chased by good samaritans for a short distance authorities believe Kelley crashed his SUV and took his own life.
