Border Patrol agents arrest woman convicted of sex trafficking
Border Patrol agents at the El Center Sector arrested a Salvadoran citizen who was entering the country illegally on Wednesday evening who had been previously convicted of sex trafficking.
Agents patrolling around 25 miles of the Calexico Port of Entry at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday noticed a woman attempting to enter the U.S. by climbing over the international boundary fence.
Once the woman was arrested, she was transported to the Calexico station were record checks identified her as 62-year-old Gloria Reyes-Lopez.
She had been previously convicted of Sex Trafficking of Children by Force, Fraud or Coercion and was sentenced to 21 months in prison.
Reyes was also ordered to be removed by an immigration judge on Aug. 22nd.
“This individual was a convicted felon who preyed on young, innocent children, ” said Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim. “The men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol are this country’s first line of defense against threats like this.”
The 62-year-old will be prosecuted for re-entry after removal.
