7-year-old dies after single-vehicle accident
A seven-year-old child has died, and two others sustained minor to moderate injuries following a single-vehicle accident in El Centro Saturday night.
Around 7:47 p.m., a 29-year-old woman was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Trail Blazer southbound on SR-86 south of Poe Road. The vehicle was going about 65 miles per hour.
The driver of the Chevrolet lost control of the vehicle and ran off the paved portion of the road and overturned onto the west dirt shoulder. The cause of the vehicle losing control is still under investigation.
As a result, the 29-year-old woman driver, and a one-year-old boy received minor to moderate injuries. The driver was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center and the one-year-old boy was taken to Rady’s Children Hospital. The 7-year-old girl passenger died from her injuries.
According to CHP, the 7-year-old girl was not restrained in the vehicle. California Highway Patrol wants to stress the importance of child restraints. The public can call (760)-312-1800 to make an appointment for car seat checks, installations and or to apply for one of our grant seats.
