Fatal crash claims life of young teen

A 14-year-old girl, taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, has died following a collision with a car.

It happened Saturday, October 7th around 7:05 p.m. The Yuma Police Department responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

The investigation revealed that a black Dodge Avenger, which was driven by a 21-year-old man, was traveling northbound on Avenue C. A 15-year-old girl, who was with two of her friends, was crossing the street when she was struck by the Dodge Avenger.

After being transported to YRMC with life-threatening injuries, the 14-year-old girl was later pronounced dead. The other two girls were not injured.

NOTE: YPD sent out an update on Tuesday, Oct. 10th regarding the fatality collision and noted that Jazmin Reyes’ correct age was 14 years old. YPD released another update correcting the name as Jazmin Reyes.
