Prayers and vigils held at Las Vegas City Hall following shooting

Las Vegas is one city that’s always alive. Tonight, it was a different story.

The Strip was closed off today as investigations continue in the aftermath of a mass shooting that left 59 dead and over 520 injured at the outdoor country music festival. Today, at the vigil, heads were looking down in silence to remember and honor the lives lost.

Prayers and vigils were held across the city today to honor those who lost their lives during the mass shooting that happened late Sunday night. Emotions were running high in the aftermath of now the United States deadliest mass shooting in modern history. Even with high emotions, there was a unified front. A clear message the city of Las Vegas is sending to the rest of the nation.

Las Vegas City Hall hosted a prayer vigil at 5 p.m. as Mayor Carolyn Goodman spoke to the community in the setting sun, who joined her in unity. She invited faith leaders to also speak, as they offered words of encouragement and a call to God to bring love to the community. This was just one of several vigils and prayer services held across the city.

Even after the vigil wrapped up, people lingered around holding hands, singing and praying, calling out to Jesus.

The Las Vegas community overall coming together to help those affected, including over 520 victims from the shooting and first responders. The community is helping with donations of food, water, and by donating blood.

Despite hard times in Sin City, many are confident the city will work hard to recover. Kenny Davis, a resident who stands by his city, said that the city as he knows it is completely different. Davis seems confident that Vegas will come back from this tragedy.
